Description

This is a katana made by Suishinshi Masatsugu in Musashi province during the Shinshinto sword period (1781-1876) but more precisely in the Ansei period (1854-1860) when his production was very mature and profusely. Masatsugu died in 1860.
He was the grandson of Suishinshi Masahide, a legendary swordsmith and the founding father of the Shinshinto (new-new swords) era during the late Edo period. The blade is 25.5 inches, and is in mint condition. It shows unique O O MIDARE hamon ( disturbance of temper line) up to the kissaki (tip of blade). In shirasaya, or white sheath, silk bag, signed, no papers.
Stand not included in lot.
