Description
An antique Tekke Tribe traditional embroidered silk cloak or mantle created using a lace stitching called kesdi. The Tekke Tribe originates from the Turkman region of the Middle East and these mantles were embroidered by women of the tribe, with the base colour signifying the position of the woman in Tekke society, this cloak with a black ground would be worn and signify a young, unmarried woman, the mantle is worn over a tunic cloak-fashion, covering the head and shoulders, with the long vestigial sleeves hanging down the back and joined by an embroidered band, circa 1900. Measuring 46 inches L including fringe x 17 W at shoulders.
