THE SIMON CHANG COLLECTION – A stunning pair of Chinese antique red felt tok wi (altar) cloths, the front of the panels elaborately and finely hand embroidered with gold and various other coloured thread using kesi and peking techniques, showing a large central foot dog and a mythological qilin beast surrounded by precious and auspicious objects, with floral and traditional geometric patterns around the edge, the upper hanging panel with a complimentary design and surrounded by silk brocade border, museum quality workmanship, altar clothes were draped over ancestral altars during major celebrations, weddings and Lunar New Year festivities, circa late Qing dynasty, circa mid- to late-1800’s. Measuring 40 inches W x 36 H.
