Description
Southwestern Chinese back belt baby carrier called a guobei or beidai, probably from the Miao or Bai ethnic minority communities, featuring intricate hand made stitched embroidery in brightly coloured silk of an elaborate floral design with applied reflective elements, circa 2nd half 20th century. See the Timothy S.Y. Lam Museum of Anthropology in North Carolina for a near identical example. Measuring 26 inches H x 17 W, with straps, 65 inches.
