Japanese antique hand carved lacquered cypress wood Noh or No theatre mask representing Beshimi Akujo, a fierce goblin character with an aged appearance and closed mouth. Fully painted on gesso with remnants of polychrome colour paint. Edo period 1603 – 1868. Unmarked. Please see our other auctions for more Noh and Kyogen masks.
