Japanese Noh No Theater Mask Yase Otoko Fisherman
Description
Japanese antique hand carved lacquered cypress wood Noh or No theatre mask representing Yase-Otoko, the ghost of a fisherman who to hell for murder, featuring sucken eyes and facial features, and features in plays such as YachÅ, Akochi, and Fujito. Fullly painted on gesso with red and gilt hightlights, original horsehair features on eyebrows, upper lip and chin are missing but remnants in the holes remain. Edo period 1603 – 1868.
