Description

Striking Inuit carved antler bird sculpture mounted on a Soapstone base. The elongated form emphasizes graceful movement and minimalist modeling, with a slender neck and beak rendered in a highly stylized manner. The sculpture reflects the modernist aesthetic adopted by many Inuit artists in the late 20th century, combining materials to create a balanced, sculptural composition.

A gallery label to the underside of the base references G. J.  “Valoogak” and an inventory notation, suggesting prior retail gallery handling.
Length: 11 in.
Signature: Unsigned; gallery label to underside.
Provenance: From the collection of Ene Schoeler who served as Secretary of the Canadian Eskimo Arts Council from 1967 to 1989, during a critical period in the promotion and international recognition of Inuit art; works from her collection reflect close engagement with artists, co-operatives, and dealers active during this formative era.
