Lot 96:
Vietnamese Bien Hoa Polychrome Stoneware Charger With Mandarin Procession, 20th Century
Description
A decorative Vietnamese Bien Hoa polychrome stoneware charger, painted with a formal mandarin procession scene: a robed official riding beneath a ceremonial parasol, accompanied by attendants carrying banners and standards through leafy landscape. The rim is bordered with a rich iron-red and gilt-style scrolling band, framing the central courtly composition with strong export-decorative presence. The underside bears an impressed Bien Hoa mark, identifying the piece with the Bien Hoa ceramic tradition of southern Vietnam. Bien Hoa ceramics are especially associated with the fusion of Vietnamese, Chinese, Cham, and French-colonial applied-art influences
Dimensions: 13.25 inches diameter x 2.25 H.
