Lot 95:
Important Vietnamese Nguyen Dynasty Imperial Dragon Enamel Bowl
Description
A large Nguyen Imperial Hue phap lam enamel-on-copper charger, finely decorated with multiple Vietnamese imperial dragons amid multicoloured ruyi clouds and flaming pearls. Executed in brilliant polychrome enamels over a pale ground, the work reflects the courtly enamel tradition of Hue, where copper-bodied vessels were transformed into luminous objects of imperial ceremony, domestic refinement, and palace display. The dragons, with animated faces, sinuous bodies, crested heads, and rhythmic scale work, evoke sovereign power, celestial protection, prosperity, and dynastic authority.
Dimensions: 12 inches W x 3 H
