Pair of complimentary Japanese solid bronze vases of a tall amphora shape with attached stands and angular applied handles, the bodies finely decorated with incised motifs and designs in relief in gold, one vase depicts the deity Tekkai Sennin watching his spirit form depart towards heaven, while the other depicts the Gama Sennin with his sword, on the reverse of each is a details basket with floral and fruit and surrounding birds, the lower part of each vase on both sides depicts four different detailed images of a fierce tiger with gold eyes, various other inlayed designs on the base, top and handles, exceptional workmanship, Meiji period, late 19th century
