Middle Eastern Qajar Hallmarked Repousse Silver-Metal Box With Courtly Figural Scene
Description
<p>Oval Middle Eastern Qajar or Qajar-revival silver-metal box, the domed cover finely worked in repoussé and chased relief with a courtly figural gathering, including robed figures, attendants, vessels, foliage, and architectural landscape detail. The sides are decorated with a continuous engraved floral and palmette border, giving the piece a richly worked surface from lid to body. The underside bears struck marks consistent with Middle Eastern silver workshop or assay marks. However, acid testing is inconsistent.
