Antique Middle Eastern Safavid-period or Style Turquoise-glazed Stonepaste Jar
Description
Antique Middle Eastern Safavid turquoise-glazed stonepaste jar, decorated in black under a transparent turquoise glaze with scrolling vegetal and hatched ornament. The jar has a rounded ovoid body, short neck, unglazed foot, and later applied metal rim mount. The surface shows deep turquoise glaze, black underglaze painting, age-related crazing, glaze variation, and old oxidized residue around the foot. The hard pale ceramic body and black-under-turquoise decoration align with Persian stonepaste / fritware traditions associated with Safavid and Kubachi-type ceramics.
Dimensions: 6.5 inches H x 5 W.
Condition: Previously drilled as a lamp, since restored.
