Cornelius Krieghoff (1815-1872) Lithograph of a Habitant titled Pour l’amour du bon Dieu (For the Love of God) featuring a figure in a red cap, a subject matter characteristic of Krieghoff’s interest in the daily life of French-Canadian peasants. Cut down into an oval, mounted to paper. With stamp from Galerie Zanettin on verso.
Cornelius Krieghoff (1815-1872) was famous for his depictions of French-Canadian habitants, Indigenous peoples, and Canadian landscapes.
Provenance: Acquired from the Tennison Family and Maydwell Manufacturing Company, Toronto. Exhibited at the Krieghoff Exhibition at la Musee du Quebec, Summer 2000.
Condition: Chip to bottom of piece, pushpin marking at top of oval.
Dimensions: measures 10.5 inches H x 9 W, oval, frame measures 15 inches H x 12.5 W.
