French Empire Gilt and Patinated Bronze, Marble Figural Mantle Clock, HEMON, Paris
Description
Antique French mantel clock, often titled Meditation or Study ("L’Etude"), in the style of bronzier Pierre Philippe Thomire and in the Empire style. It features a patinated bronze female figure leaning against a rectangular clock tower, which rests on a rouge royale marble base adorned with gilt bronze mounts. The bas-relief panel on the front depicts allegorical scenes representing study, more precisely, the arts or painting. Movement untested. Movement is signed HEMON A PARIS.
Dimensions: 28.5H x 19W x 8.25D. Marble on base restored, no glass over dial.
