An Important Wrought Iron and Copper ‘Three-Crane’ Jardinière / Athénienne
Italy or France, Napoleon III period, second half of the 19th century.
This spectacular salon jardinière (or athénienne) is supported by a wrought iron tripod stand. The forged design features three cranes (or storks) standing around a central rustic column entwined with climbing roses and detailed foliage.
The figural stand supports a large, beautifully gadrooned copper basin, decorated with a classical egg-and-dart border along the upper rim.
Provenance : From the historic collections of Castello Ferrari, Pieve del Cairo [1] (Lombardy, Italy). This fortified castle, deeply rooted in the history of the Lomellina region, was renowned for housing refined works of art celebrating the high taste of the Italian nobility.
