Description
Jean Labourdette (Canada, 21st C – AKA Turf One) Acrylic and gold leaf on panel and 19th C gilt bronze ebonized frame depicting finely painted sparrow with talons delicately gripping the edge of the brass frame.
The piece belongs to his series of miniature bird paintings, which frequently feature house sparrows or other small birds set against gold leaf backgrounds and housed in antique frames. His work is characterized by a signature aesthetic that blends influences from 15th-century Flemish Primitives with elements of Russian icons, Victorian curiosities, and graffiti art.
Technique: Acrylic, oil, and gold leaf on wood panels.
Framing: Victorian ebonized frame.
Signed on reverse, titled and dated 2023.
