Description

Esa Udlaok (Inuit, Igloolik) Carved Bird, 1984

Hand-carved Inuit bird sculpture by Esa Udlaok of Igloolik, executed in pale grey-green soapstone with scattered dark mineral inclusions. The bird is rendered in a compact, stylized form with smoothly rounded head and beak, subtly incised wings, and simplified feet supporting the body.
The stone displays a soft, matte polish typical of Soapstone used by Arctic carvers, with natural speckling throughout. The underside bears the artist’s signature and date “E. Udlaok 1984.”
