Historical Hand Tinted illustration titled Montreal in 1806 – The Place d’Armes and the Old French Church in Montreal, Canada. From The Canadian Illustrated News, Jan 18, 1879.
The print is based on an 1816 illustration by John Lambert, who traveled through Lower Canada between 1806 and 1808.
It showcases the historical urban planning of Montreal’s central square during the early 19th century.
The scene features the original Notre-Dame Parish Church, which predates the current Basilica constructed in the 1820s.
Lambert visited the area to promote hemp cultivation to reduce Britain’s reliance on European markets.
Measuring 10 inches H x 12.5 W within matting.
