Large Antique Chinese Bronze Head of Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion
Description
An antique bronze head of the Bodhisattva Guanyin, the Chinese deity associated with compassion. It features a calm face with downcast eyes, suggesting a serene or peaceful expression. She has combed, upswept hair styled into an elaborate coiffure and is adorned with an elaborate crown and is made of patinated bronze, which gives it a rich, dark original finish often showing signs of age. The head is mounted on a carved wooden base, featuring intricate designs. Head measures 14 inches H x 6 W x 7 deep, stand measures 4.5 inches H x 8 W x 7 deep.
Guanyin is known as The One Who Perceives the Sounds of the World and is a major figure in East Asian Buddhism.
