Description
A rectangular domed lacquer box from late Qing China, hand-painted in red lacquer with gilt and black decoration and fitted with brass hardware. The exterior is decorated with figures in a domestic courtyard scene. Opening the box reveals two concealed interior paintings depicting amorous couples in refined interior settings, executed in gilt and polychrome on red lacquer, consistent with the late Qing “spring palace” (chun gong) tradition.
