Antique Japanese Samurai Traveling Armour and Hitsu
Description
From the Edo period (1603-1868), this traveling armour (every piece can be folded) comes with its original box called hitsu. A rare and fine example, all pieces, kabuto, Dou, sode, kote and haidate, they all have the same pattern and colors, so perfectly matched. The kabuto has nice fukigaeshi (helmet ears) showing brass kamon (family crest) , a nice sakura(cherry blossom) brass maedate (front decoration) and a wooden ushirodate (back helmet decoration) of a full moon. The helmet is called ‘Chochin’ a collapsible one made for war travels. All pieces can get in the small hitsu armor box on which the armor is seated. 63 inches H x 23 W as displayed. Some wear and distress in keeping with age. No black base included.
