Description

Rufino Tamayo (Mexican, 1899-1991)

Hombre con Sombrero (Man in Hat), ca. 1975-85
Mixografía / color lithograph with textured monotype surface
Edition VI/XIII
Signed (likely lower right—hidden in current photos; if not, it may be signed verso, which Tamayo sometimes did with small special editions)
Sheet approx. 25 × 31.5 in
Framed: 36.5 × 44.5 in
A rare small-edition Mixografía from Tamayo’s mature period, depicting a stylized male figure with a broad hat set against a richly textured blue and ochre background. The monumental simplicity of the figure, the geometric facial structure, and the granular surface texture are hallmarks of Tamayo’s late printmaking, executed in collaboration with the Remba Workshop. The exceptionally small edition of XIII suggests a special project or a limited workshop series.
Provenance: Private collection, Montréal.
