Italian Pietra Dura Plaque of a Cavalier, Grand Tour, c. 1880-1920
Description
A finely composed Florentine pietra dura hardstone inlay depicting a cavalier drinking from a flask, set against a black slate ground. Richly colored marbles and hardstones form the trousers and accessories, with painted stone highlights typical of late 19th-early 20th century workmanship.
Pietra dura (hardstone and marble inlay) on black slate; mounted in a period ebonized frame. Loss to blue feather inlay; otherwise well preserved. Total framed size approx. 14 × 9 inches. Italian, Grand Tour period.
