Paul-Vanier Beaulieu (Canadian, 1910-1996) Etching on Paper, Couple seated on a garden bench. Signed in pencil, lower right, numbered 9/30. Paul-Vanier Beaulieu (Canadian, 1910-1996) was a prominent Quebec painter known for his versatile work in figurative, abstract, and still-life painting. Beaulieu studied at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal for two years, where he was a classmate of artists like Jean-Paul Lemieux and Stanley Cosgrove.Beaulieu was a versatile artist who constantly experimented with different styles and mediums, including oil, watercolor, and etching. His work spans figurative symbolism, still-lifes (often influenced by Cézanne and Picasso), and abstraction (especially after travels to Provence in the 1960s). His later work was also inspired by the Laurentian landscapes. 16 x 12 inches
