Description
A matching pair of mid-19th century circular high-relief alabaster or composite marble plaques, designed by Victorian sculptor Edward William Wyon. The first plaque depicts Wyon’s highly coveted interpretation of The Calmady Children (after the 1823 painting by Sir Thomas Lawrence), finely rendering the two young girls in an affectionate embrace, with artist’s signature E.W. Wyon Sculpt. along the lower edge. The companion plaque depicts a complementary neoclassical scene of The Infant Academy, showing three playful putti engaged in artistic study. They are housed in heavily carved Victorian Neobarock / Rococo Revival Style square giltwood and gesso frames, featuring intricate acanthus leaf scrolls, floral clusters, and stylized corner ornaments. Plaques measures 7 inches, frames measure 11.5 inches x 11.5.
