Description
Luis Eduardo de la Rocha (Spain – France, 1886-1968), a very rare series of artist proof lithographs of charcoal sketches of the Spanish Revolution of 1936, total of 9 lithographs on arches paper, all signed in pencil lower right by the artist and titled in Spanish and noted in French artist’s proof (epreuve d’artiste) on the lower left, set in a paper portfolio marked Revolution Espangole and signed by the artist. Smallest lithograph measures 10 x 13 inches, largest measures 17.25 inches x 13. Folio measures 18 inches x 13.
Luis de la Rocha was born in Madrid but mainly lived and worked in France and supported the anti-fascist cause during the revolution, this graphic series of charcoal sketches detailing the horrors of the Spanish Revolution are little known and very rare, how many lithograph sets were made and the location of the originals is unknown.
Provenance – a late distinguished Canadian collector.
