Japanese Antique Noh No Theater Mask Shikami Demon
Description
Japanese antique hand carved and laquered on wood Noh or No theatre mask representing the demon Shikami from the Kanze school. Used in plays such as Rashomon, Momijigari and Tsuchigumo. Fully painted on gesso with red and gold highlights and black painted hair. Meiji period 1868 – 1912. Maker’s seal on back – possibly Ryu’un or Shuzan.
