Large Austro-German Bronze Hermes/Mercury Sculpture, signed Seifert, Early 20th C
Description
Modelled by Franz Seifert (1866-1951) in a refined Viennese/Jugendstil classicizing manner, the youthful god stands upon a cloud-form base over variegated green marble, wearing a winged cap and holding a caduceus and purse of coins. The broad open composition is notable for its scale and silhouette.
Dimensions: 16 inches H x 21.5 W.
Provenance: Formerly the collection of Banque Nationale De Paris. Acquired through a charity auction held by the bank.
