A still life painting of flowers in a vase by Polish artist Jozef Czapski (1896-1993). Czapski was a Postwar & Contemporary painter known for his expressive paintings. Signed lower right, J.C. 75.

Jozef Czapski (1896-1993) was a prominent Polish artist, author, and military officer whose life was defined by the major upheavals of 20th-century Europe. As a painter, Czapski was a co-founder of the Kapist movement, a group of Polish artists who studied in Paris and were heavily influenced by Post-Impressionism and Paul Cézanne. His work is characterized by Intense Color and Expression.
Czapski’s work frequently featured everyday subjects, including:
Still Lifes: He often painted simple floral arrangements in vases, fruit, and table settings.
Portraits and Figures: His subjects ranged from self-portraits to people in cafes.
