A loose sketch or study of a female figure by the Polish artist and writer Jozef Czapski (1896-1993). Signed lower right, J.C.


Jozef Czapski was a highly influential figure in 20th-century Polish culture, known as a painter, draughtsman, and essayist. He was a co-founder of the Parisian cultural magazine Kultura and was a key member of the "Paris Committee, " a group of artists who moved to Paris to study in the 1920s.

Style: His drawings are often characterized by expressive, rapid ink lines that capture the essence of everyday moments and people.
Subject Matter: Czapski frequently drew landscapes, still lifes, and portraits. He was known for keeping extensive diaries that blended writing with spontaneous sketches, documenting his life and surroundings over several decades.
