Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print by Kitagawa Utamaro (1753-1806) titled Reading Beauty (also known as The Cloth-fulling Jewel River or Writing a Letter in some editions). Utamaro is world-renowned for his bijin-ga, or pictures of beautiful women, which are characterized by graceful, elongated figures and intricate patterns in their clothing. 

Artist: Kitagawa Utamaro (1753-1806).
Subject: A beauty (often a geisha or courtesan) engaged in a private moment, in this case, carefully holding or reading a thin piece of paper or a letter.
Dimensions: Paper measures 15.5 inches H x 10.25 W, within matting measures 18.25 x 13.25 inches.
