Description
This large Persian Qajar ceramic jar features a rounded ovoid body that tapers to a narrow base. The vessel is decorated with underglaze blue, green, and manganese black outlines set against a cream-colored ground. The central register is organized into four arched panels, each depicting a seated figure in traditional attire. Horizontal bands of geometric zig-zags and scrolling foliate motifs border the neck and the foot of the jar. The base is unglazed and displays a terracotta color. The jar exhibits widespread fine glaze crazing throughout the surface. Minor surface pitting and staining are present. Previously drilled to be mounted as a lamp. Measuring 13 inches H x 8 W.
