1940s Old ecclesiastical Thurible, portable Incense burner or Censer
Description
Mid-20th-century ecclesiastical thurible (censer), of multi-part construction, designed for the burning of incense during liturgical services. The body comprises a two-part structure with an internal copper incense dish. The domed lid is decoratively pierced with openwork ventilation holes and fitted with a suspension ring.
The censer retains its original chain assembly, including a secondary lifting chain mechanism for raising the lid during use. Functional and decorative, the form reflects traditional ecclesiastical design of the early-to-mid 20th century.
