Rare Miniature Louis XVI Period Two Drawer Mahogany Commode, France C. 1790
Description
The case with floating panelled sides and a rectilinear shaped top over two full width drawers decorated with raised ebonized mouldings, flanked on either side by fluted columns terminating to plain toupie feet and in what appears to be its original untouched surface and finish. This is not a toy or a piece of children’s furniture; it is an authentic scaled-down period example made either by a cabinetmaker’s apprentice or by a tradesman to illustrate to potential clients the manner of furniture they manufacture. Dimensions: H 13.5 in. x W 14.25 in. x D 7.75 in.
