French Louis XVI Style Marble and Gilt Bronze Mounted Pedestal
Description
An impressive French Empire or Louis XVI style pedestal of rectangular tapering form, richly mounted with gilt metal ornament and veneered in variegated marble panels. The shaft is centered with green marble reserves framed by red marble borders, highlighted throughout with scrolling gilt mounts, acanthus ornament, masks, and classical motifs.
The square capital is decorated with continuous gilt scrollwork beneath a marble top, while the base is similarly mounted with repeating gilt bronze ornamentation. The overall composition reflects strong neoclassical influence, combining architectural form with decorative refinement.
