A Chinese Cast Bronze Seated Figure of Guanyin, Ming Dynasty
Description
A Chinese cast bronze seated figure of Guanyin, Ming Dynasty. The Bodhisattva is portrayed in a traditional meditative posture with the left hand raised in abhaya mudra and the right hand resting on the knee in varada mudra. The figure is adorned with elaborate, flowing robes featuring incised floral borders, bejeweled necklaces, and a high, intricately pierced crown with a central small seated Buddha. The dark-patinated metal surface shows traces of red pigment or lacquer throughout the recessed details and within the hollowed interior base. The reverse of the figure displays draped robes with similar decorative patterns. Measuring 8.5 inches H x 6 W x 4 deep.
