Catalogue Note
Throughout the 19th century, the sentimental genre scenes and child portraits of Jean-Baptiste Greuze were widely admired and frequently adapted by European decorative arts workshops. Porcelain miniatures such as the present example translated Greuze’s softly modeled faces, warm tonal transitions, and gentle emotional expression into a refined decorative format suited to intimate domestic display.
