Gilt Bronze Box with Hand-Painted Portrait Miniature
Description
A refined 19th-century French gilt bronze jewelry or trinket box, the lid inset with a finely painted porcelain portrait miniature of a noblewoman in 18th-century attire. The portrait is delicately rendered with luminous flesh tones and soft drapery and appears to be signed along the right edge of the painting, partially obscured, indicating the hand of a skilled mid-19th-century miniaturist. The oval box is richly ornamented with a guilloche-patterned ground and applied floral and Rococo-style gilt bronze motifs. The interior is lined in deep red velvet.
