Lot 139:
Antique Japanese Nihonto Samurai Tanto Signed Tomoshige
Description
Antique Japanese short sword called Tanto, signed Fujishima Tomoshige, whose maker’s name lasted several generations from the early Namboku period to the end of the Edo period (early 14th-late 19th century). This large Tanto is 20.5 inches overall with a 11.5 inches blade. The blade is very thick and free of scratches and blemishes. The elaborate koshirae, or mountings, with the fuchi and kashira, shows dark crawling dragons. The blue silk-cord wrapped tsuka or handle is in great shape. The iron tsuba has gold-inserts showing flowers. The saya has a nice finish with horns embellishments and a tip of silver. Overall a very nice collector’s piece. Signed, no papers. With silk bag.
