George Hart Hughes (Canadian, 1839 – 1921) Oil on Canvas, after Following the Moose (also known as A North American Indian Hunter) by Dutch-Canadian artist Cornelius Krieghoff. Signed on the reverse, G. H. Hughes after C. Krieghoff. Measuring 10 inches H x 8 W, frame measures 12.5 inches x 10.5. Framed behind glass.

George Hart Hughes (1839-1921) was an Irish-born Canadian painter recognized for his contributions to historical Canadian landscape and genre painting. He is said to have studied under the famous artist Cornelius Krieghoff, a connection often cited by art historians despite a lack of formal documentation. 

Hughes is best known for his oil paintings depicting 19th-century Canadian life. He was professionally active in Montreal between roughly 1861 and 1878, residing at 73 St. Patrick Street during the 1870s.
