Description

A long, horizontal framed painted silk fragment depicting an 19th-century Japanese procession, resembling Samurai troops in the Second Choshu expedition from 1865. Painting depicts a historical procession of figures in traditional Japanese attire, possibly samurai or feudal retainers carrying traditional gear and flags near a wooden bridge. Silk measures 49 inches L x 11.5 H, frame measures 54.5 inches L x 14 H. Some condition issues (seemingly fragile and some holes and fraying) with silk, as shown.
