Description

The central composition focuses on Silenus, the elderly, fleshy, and intoxicated tutor of Bacchus (Dionysus), who is depicted being supported by reveling bacchants and satyrs in a lush, wooded classical landscape.  It is attributed to the historic pottery center of Urbino, Italy, rendered in the classic istoriato (storytelling) Renaissance style. Measuring 18.75 inches diameter.

Condition: Hairline crack, restoration to one edge. Some chipping to rim glaze. Please see photos.
