Seetee Natsiapik Green Serpentine Inuit Wrestling 1974
Description
Seetee Natsiapik (1939 – ) Qikiqtarjuaq / Broughton Island, Nunavut, large green serpentine stone carving of two inuit figures wrestling, their faces turned upward and their noses represented by large tusks with carved details. Inuit wrestling is a long held traditional practice that allows hunters to maintain physical strength, endurance, and community ties in the Arctic, and is usually based on raw strength with the wrestlers meeting face-to-face, often in a standing, chest-to-chest position.
Dimensions: Stone figures measure 11 x 13 x 10 inches deep. Noses measure 8 inches and 10 inches.
