John Hammond (Canadian, 1843-1939) oil on canvas, painting of a coastal landscape featuring a windmill. Signed lower right, dated (illegible).
John Hammond was a highly celebrated 19th-century artist who lived and studied across Europe during the 1870s and 1880s, heavily adopting the moody, light-filled styles of the Dutch Hague and Barbizon schools. He notably produced Dutch-inspired works, including his famous canvas titled Landscape with Cows and Windmill (1898).
