An antique engraving titled British Possessions in North America, published by Thomas Dobson around 1795. It was originally produced for an American edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica. Thomas Dobson (1751-1823) wasPhiladelphia’s first major commercial publisher. The map depicts the British territories in North America following the American Revolutionary War. It covers the area from the Atlantic coast through central Canada, including Labrador, Newfoundland, and the Hudson Bay Company’s territories.
