Izumi Seijo (Japan, 1865 – 1937) a finely craft large solid bronze vase, the body with a stylized wave motif with overlay birds, the tapering neck encircled by a very detailed dragon with his front claw holding a glass orb, in Japanese folklore the orb represents a sacred jewel or tama, and it is believed to symbolize wisdom and luck, the tama is thought to hold the power to grand wishes and allows the dragon to freely travel between realms, hence its fierce protection of it, Meiji period, late 19th century – early 20th century, signed on base.

Dimensions: Vase measures 13 inches H x 8 W, 14 inches on stand.
