Description
Adam Sheriff Scott (Canadian, 1887-1980) Copy of A Very Gallant Gentleman (1913) originally by British painter John Charles Dollman. The painting depicts Captain Lawrence Oates walking into a blizzard during the 1912 British Antarctic Expedition to sacrifice himself for his comrades. Signed lower left in red.
Scott was a prominent member of the Beaver Hall Group and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. He was particularly well-known for his detailed historical paintings and vivid depictions of Canadian Inuit life and frontier scenes.
Dimensions: Canvas measures 30 inches H x 35 W, frame measures 41 x 46.5 inches.
