19th C Antique Louis XVI Gilt Bronze and Peacock Fan Fire Screen
Description
An antique fan-shaped fire screen, made from gilded bronze or brass and finely embroidered floral upholstery. Decorated with grotesque masks and maidens. Common in the19th century during the Napoleon III or Louis XVI eras to serve as a spark guard while adding an ornamental touch to a fireplace. This particular style is often referred to as a peacock tail or fan screen due to its scalloped shape.
