Catalogue Note
Executed in 1894, Le Chapeau Épinglé is among Renoir’s most refined prints and part of the important group issued by Ambroise Vollard. The composition depicts Julie Manet, daughter of Berthe Morisot, with her cousin, reflecting Renoir’s intimate Impressionist circle. The third state represents the fully resolved composition, with strengthened cross-hatching and richer tonal modeling.
