Description

Carved sculpture depicting a stylized standing Inuit figure rendered with simplified geometric forms. The figure is shown with legs spread apart and one arm raised, the head framed by a circular hood suggesting a traditional parka. 

The expressive stance and simplified anatomy reflect the sculptural language developed by Inuit artists as carving traditions expanded in northern communities during the mid-20th century.
The reverse retains inventory  tag noting “Inuk, Ca. 1970.”

Provenance: From the collection of Ene Schoeler who served as Secretary of the Canadian Eskimo Arts Council from 1967 to 1989, during a critical period in the promotion and international recognition of Inuit art; works from her collection reflect close engagement with artists, co-operatives, and dealers active during this formative era.
